The Bracelet Slinger Blog

  • Closer to the Stars

It’s places like these that turn even the most magnificent houses, or anything with a wall and roof, into a cage.

  • Migration

My gut told me it was time to go.  Maybe that’s what the birds feel when it’s time to go.  Maybe I’m not running away, maybe I‘m just following my migratory route.  Heading to Crested Butte, where Black Lives Matter was painted on the street of their downtown in 2020 and temperatures are in the 70s.
  • Slowing Down

Texas feels so far away now, in mind and spirit.  It feels like the dark ages.  That girl who grew up there would’ve read these blog posts and thought I’d gone straight hippie and granola.  But looking back, all I see is a girl who had a lot to learn and everything to unlearn.
  • Desert Squad

It was refreshing to be around others who appreciate making things with their hands, prioritize enjoying life by living with less, and share a similar lifestyle.  All three of us also had a shared abhorrence to the idea of marriage or being tied down which fueled our sassiness and connection even more.
  • A New Direction

But now, as I’m trying to move away from social media and try something new, attending markets is sounding really fun!  And what better way to try it for the first time but at a van gathering!
  • Voices

But slowly, the more these voices talk with one another, these two voices are becoming one.  The voice that is my own and the voice that speaks back is slowly becoming the same…nurturing the old voice into becoming the new.
  • Cravings

I get cravings for places like some get cravings for food.  Instead of appeasing just the senses of my tongue and stomach, my skin, nose, ears, eyes, lungs, and heart get ravenous for a specific ecosystem and the sensations it brings.
  • Like a Cabin in the Woods

By the time I leave, there’s less need to hurry, less need for distractions to keep me busy, less thoughts about myself and more about my surroundings.  That’s when my own skin starts to feel like home - when my senses have gotten bigger, big enough to take in more earth, more wild, and I’m free to unleash my own thoughts and let nature take over my mind.
  • The Life of Wind

Sometimes she’s peaceful…sometimes she’s fierce…sometimes she’s gone.  She brings my home to life, breathes air into it, lifts my spirit when the corners of the scarf twirl and dance so wildly and free, sometimes even getting the ends of my hair to join leading me in for a spin.
  • Why a Van?

sometimes needing repairs…sometimes on a roll…sometimes wondering how I ever thought I wanted my life to end.  Such is life, just keep going, you’re always one exit away from turning your life in a completely different direction.
  • Missing Person

When I wonder about them, I look at myself, and I tell myself, “There they are.  They look like me…the answer is right there in the photo…in the reflection…in the mirror,” but at the same time, I can’t see them at all.  It’s like not being able to see a part of me.
  • Boundaries

The pain can stay, but the conductor of it can not.  And with that, it is now my responsibility to not repeat the mistakes that have been past on to me, not put myself in the position to be treated as less than I deserve - now that I am aware, it will be the fault of mine and no one else’s.  I will no longer be a victim.  I am fully in control of my actions from here on out.  In building my own boundaries, I have found freedom.
