Wilderness First Aid

Wilderness First Aid
The biggest failures of today’s healthcare is how society treats physical injury with more aptitude and diligence than mental and emotional injury. The same part of the brain lights up from a broken bone as a broken heart. The body, the mind, and the spirit are all one and need to be treated together as such. They are all tied together on a string and when one is pulled, the rest go with it.

The biggest take away from Wilderness EMT training was learning the simple step by step treatment for emergency physical injury - a clear, simple, and solid checklist to get to safety in order to heal. This same emergency treatment plan can be used in treating mental and emotional injury. We must treat our bodies, minds, and spirits equally and together in order to find our balance…in order to heal…in order to stop the cycle of trauma.

*I’m not a healthcare professional or expert, but experiencing and healing from trauma is not part of the academic curriculum and requirements. The only experts on PTSD are the ones who have lived through it.
