The Daydream
All my senses feel pulled into the trees, noticing all the little leaves gently swaying with every tiny gust of wind. It’s like they’re communicating with each other…with the forest. Nodding. Waving. Giggling. Breathing. I feel a yearning in my chest…a sort of homesickness, but not for a home behind walls, under a roof, and smothered by humans. It’s more like a calling to return to the primal self…return to being an animal…to go home…released back into the wild. It’s an overpowering feeling…hypnotic with a twinge of heart break.
It’s like I hear her trying to persuade me to leave it all behind, but our languages have been separated at birth, and I’ve been raised to speak a different language other than the one she speaks, than the one we were all born to learn…the language of the universe…that translates the wind, the ripples in the water, the dirt, the shadows, the clouds, and mood of the wilderness…the language that’s been stolen from us all…I don’t know if I could learn it this late in the game…be fluent enough to get by…on my own.
As I stand on the edge of the dense unknown, at her open door swung wide open, with nothing but myself in the way, she says I’ll thrive and love it if I just made the leap…break out of the system…completely…go all the way. It’s so close. It’s right there. The final leap. To unfathomable freedom. The more I tune in, it’s like this drumbeat gets louder in my heart - matching the rhythm of the forest. The more I see society for what it is, the more I daydream about breaking free and escaping into the wild.
