PAIN + T = PAINT

Art is a wonderful way to process and work through whatever life throws at you. For those just getting started or are waiting out a creative low tide, here are some ideas to get up and running:

• Have a designated spot and fill it with things that inspire you, materials to use, tools, objects, picture books…whatever your heart desires…before you know it, that spot will start generating creative energy all on its own.

• Go out into nature. Nature has some of the best inspiration and, whatever it inspires, you get to take full artistic credit for. 😊

• Do a little bit every day. Even if it’s for one minute. Sit down and start. Make it a habit.

• Embrace the ability to make mistakes, messes, ugliness…the most original art comes from this stuff - the stuff out of your control!

• Turn some music on and start creating. Get into the flow. Tap into your emotions!

• Experiment - there is no wrong way to do art! It is completely for you.

• Trust the process. Let the mistakes evolve instead of throwing them away. There is said to be 30 layers of paint under the Mona Lisa. New x-ray technology reveals her whole face changed throughout DaVinci’s process - including the famous direction of her gaze.

• Scribble! Grab a pen and attack the paper!

• Have a museum day!

• Surround yourself with other artists, free spirits, people who encourage authenticity…in real life and social media. Having a community where it’s safe to express yourself freely makes it easier for you to cut loose, be free, and create more!
