Grounding
Not knowing where I came from, most of my life I felt like I was floating, sailing the open seas with no anchor, with an unreliable compass flickering between my inner magnetic pole and a foreign one that never felt like it was leading me the right direction. Without connections to any blood relatives or to a genetic line, there was no solid foundation to dig my roots into and grow from.
But getting closer to the earth, being able to predict what’s to come by reading cloud patterns, feeling confident in navigating by land formations and the sun, gaining knowledge of the native plants and trees with their uses and abilities, and studying the little creatures, their senses, emotions, fears, and behaviors - making a connection with the natural world and my surroundings gives me a sense of grounding - fills the hollow parts of me with a rich and diverse history that provides a sense of knowing about my past, a wholeness and belonging not just within myself but in unity with the entire universe, and passes down a culture that feels tested and true.
No matter what our situation is or where we came from, the earth is home to all of us, connecting us, with billions of years of wisdom to share, help us grow, and remind us who we are.
