Ground Zero
Now that I’ve completely demolished my life down to the absolute bare bones of my principles and truth, I am admittedly pretty shy about opening the shop back up. It’s all out there now...most of it, anyways. Enough to feel like I’m a human and not just a bracelet maker trying to look good and make a buck. I feel I have radically used my voice to the point that somebody who goes against my beliefs or is apathetic about injustice will think twice about wearing one. And those who wear them will feel my fight for freedom and know they’re not alone as we fight this heavy battle together.
I stand behind my values as much as I put myself into my art, and I will not separate the two for money, looking “good”, or even feeling good. And I know I’ve pushed a lot of good people away in order to find myself. I don’t know if there is any way to 100% align all beliefs to all actions without some major sacrifices. It mostly came down to: Will I support somebody who continues to stay silent as I’ve fought my whole entire life for freedom, when I have given up everything EVERYTHING and suffered a psychological war since I was a baby to figure out alone how to follow and stay on my path? No.
I did not suffer for anybody ANYBODY so that they could continue to perpetuate other peoples’ needless suffering. If I continued to enable it, I would not be supporting myself and my lifetime of work and those who are still battling the cruelty of being silenced, objectified, and shown in their reflection by the people who “love” them the most that they don’t matter. These bracelets are made with the marrow of my soul. And for those who have made it through the fire with me, I hope these bracelets feel more alive around your wrist than ever before.
New batch Sunday at 10a central.
